As a solopreneur, it is critical to have multiple definitions of success. Because if you fail to achieve your main goal, you still have others to be proud of. Of course, you’ll say financial wealth is your definition of success.
But I’m not saying that money doesn’t matter. What I’m saying is there is more to being a solopreneur than just profits. To give you an idea, keep on reading.
1. Success is always doing your best
Even if doing your all doesn’t yield good results, knowing that you’ve worked hard is a genuine thing to be proud of.
2. Success is setting concrete goals
In business, proper planning is everything to grow a brand. You must know your limits and what you want as a solopreneur. Greed leads to downfall and failing to plan is planning to fail.
3. Success is understanding the difference between need and want
We have a lot of wants in life like a brand new car or the latest iPhone. But those are just things we want that keep us away from solopreneurial growth. Saving money for financial and commercial stability are true needs. Once you understand that, then you’re miles ahead of being a successful businessman.
4. Success should be measured by how happy you are
Don’t let the opinions of others or how much money you earn dictate your worth as a solopreneur. Those definitions of success are different from yours. When you’re satisfied and at peace with your own, you are already one of the richest people on the planet.
5. Success is about making a difference in people’s lives
A thank you from people who you’ve helped tremendously with your products and services has more worth than a piece of paper with the face of a late president.
6. Success is believing you can
When you doubt yourself, you’ve already lost. But if you trust your own to overcome every challenge, you’ll be full of optimism, energy, and ideas that will lead you to victory.
7. Success isn’t the opposite of failure
It is strength to rise every fall while gaining knowledge, wisdom, and experience until you achieve perfection.
8. Success is taking care of your needs
A lot of businessmen neglect their own welfare in pursuit of profit. They spend a lot of hours at the office lacking sleep and under stress. When they get sick, do they get a round of applause? No, it’s just a medical certificate.
Eat healthy meals daily. Get proper rest every night. Stay in shape. Foster good relationships with your family and friends. Health is wealth. Remember that.
9. Success is learning that you sometimes have to say no
Not every opportunity drives progress to everything. A business deal might bring in money but will cost you a lot of your energy and personal time. You must learn to balance work and life. Like I’ve said at #8, take care of your needs first.
10. Success is overcoming fear
Running a business is partly a gamble. We’ll never know if our plan works or not and we all fear the unknown. Sometimes we even get paralyzed in taking risks. While this may not be a bad thing, it doesn’t push our brands forward as well.
But if you have the courage to take risks, you’ll never be stuck at one spot. You’ll always be innovating and adapting to changes. That’s what makes solopreneurship fun – the constant state of being thrilled and feeling alive. And that also is one definition of success.
What’s your definition of success? Don’t let it be for the sake of money or status. Those are common goals to achieve. Let your success be defined by who you are. Let it be something personal and unique!
