So you’ve been in your business for months already. And according to your personal assessment, most of the things you want have not happened yet. Because you face different obstacles each day, from time management to planning your campaigns, it seems that getting what you want is nearly impossible.
I’m here to tell you that it isn’t. Here are five steps to follow:
1. You need to speak out your thoughts.
A friend of mine shared how she was expecting her spouse to treat her in a particular way on a special occasion. Her expectations weren’t met, and she ended up disappointed. That experience taught her a lesson: You need to ask and you need to tell. Not everyone can read your thoughts, unfortunately, even the people who are close to you. Whether you’re working with a business partner or remote employees, communicate your expectations.
2. Require active choice.
Let’s say that you need a task to get done in a month. Instead of asking someone from your team, “What will it take for you to accomplish this project?” ask the person, “I need to to let me know if you can start this project this Friday or next Monday.” By doing this, you’re requiring the person to actively make a decision that is in your favor.
3. Research your idea before converting it into a reality.
Turning an idea into a reality takes a lot of work, and the last thing you want is finding out that the idea is less likely to fly. Consider this scenario: You’re about to start a website in the health niche. If you execute everything right away without researching your target audience, the competition, and the best products that are in demand, it’s likely that you’ll end up with wasted resources.
4. Be passionate about your pursuit.
One of the biggest secrets when it comes to making something succeed is to be passionate about it. Passion will help you stay driven when challenges come your way. In his blog, Virgin founder Richard Branson says, “When you believe in something the force of your convictions will spark other people’s interest and motivate them to help you achieve your goals. This is essential to success.”
5. Organize your thoughts.
Getting organized comes naturally to some people, while others find it hard to do. If you’re in the latter camp, you need to start practicing being more organized. Doing so will help you meet deadlines and avoid getting sidetracked by another task. Write down your thoughts on paper. Prioritize and build connections between tasks and ideas. You might find value in a mind mapping tool like MindMeister.
