It’s amazing to be a solopreneur. You get to plan your day, decide when you work, and how long your work hours should be. You say goodbye to the daily commute and the boss who constantly breathes down your neck.
But being a solopreneur also comes with a few challenges. One of these challenges is getting the energy you need to run your business efficiently, stay creative, and remain passionate even when things go wrong. You see, energy is everything.
Here are six simple ways you can get energized when you’re a solopreneur who runs a business from home.
1. Start your day on a positive note
Nothing tires you more than negative energy. This is why it’s so important to deliberately create better mornings. One thing you can do is to read something from your favorite author or life coach. It can be a motivational quote or a chapter of a self-help book. Let that inspire the rest of your day.
2. Break a sweat
Yes. Workout! Exercise gets your heart pumping faster, releases endorphins, thereby boosting your energy levels. Not just that, you also focus better. Many people feel sluggish two hours after lunch. The next time you do, get up and spend 30-45 minutes for a workout. You’ll thank me.
3. Stand up and stretch
Been sitting for too long? Standing up for one minute and stretching those stiff muscles can do wonders for your energy. It’s an old trick but it works. Stretching will help release tension and improve your blood circulation especially to your brain.
4. Drink more water
Sometimes, we’re unaware that we’re dehydrated. Fatigue is one of the signs of dehydration. Make sure that you stand each hour to drink at least one glass of water. Doing that will keep your energy levels high and allow you to think more clearly.
5. Don’t depend on caffeine
Many solopreneurs consider coffee their best friend. It helps them pull an all-nighter. Mornings are incomplete without a cup of coffee. Not to mention, coffee tastes great. However, coffee can be harmful when you turn to it as your sole source of energy. There’s nothing like a good night’s sleep to make you feel and give your best throughout the day.
6. Feed your mind with new information
Boredom can result from the lack of new strategies or sticking with business routines that haven’t made a difference. Challenge yourself. You will feel a renewed sense of energy when you step up your game. Tune in to interesting lectures like TED Talks. Read the latest news in your industry. Step out once in a while to attend small business conferences or networking events.
