Is today a good time to start a business? Maybe you’ve asked this question yourself. The fact is, while many businesses have shut down, some have started. This means one thing: Change presents opportunities.
I’ve read an interesting article where Rashmi Menon, an entrepreneur, said that positive or negative changes bring up new customer needs. While you’re thinking of starting a business now, she suggests asking these questions first:
- Can you identify a need in customers that resulted from the crisis?
- Can I serve this need better than others?
- Do I have access to funding?
- Do I have the experience or do I know someone who can help me?
You’ll find the full list of questions on the article.
In this guide, I’m going to share with you my solopreneur ideas for starting a business in this post-pandemic era. You might just find these really helpful.
1. Identify your business idea.
I’m sure you’ve got some passions that are waiting to be monetized. But do they address people’s needs today? There are certain opportunities that are worth taking advantage of. Based on my research, they include the following:
- Delivery services
- E-commerce
- Cybersecurity
- Remote fitness
- Gaming
- Home beauty products
If one of these is your interest, this is your moment.
2. Invest in good SEO practices.
Search engine optimization (SEO) has been around for a long time. But it has become more important than ever, now that there is increasing online competition. Make an effort to be visible to your online audience through good SEO.
Publish content that is relevant to your niche. More importantly, your content pieces should be able to address the needs of your audience.
3. Take advantage of video.
Another way for your startup business to stand out and engage your audience is through video. Create snackable videos that you can upload on social media. If you could do live videos, those would be 10x better. Allow your audience to ask questions about your business. Live Q&As are also an opportunity to ask them what they like. Leverage their ideas to create an amazing product or service.
4. Build a small business website.
A website is essential for showing your customers who you are and what you offer. Here are the first few steps of setting it up:
- Choose a domain name
- Choose a web host
- Create your pages
- Set up your payment system
- Connect your social media channels
This sounds like a lot of work, and yes, it is a lot of work. The good news is, you can set aside some money to be able to outsource these tasks. Hire a skilled freelancer or better yet, assemble a team that can help you long-term.
5. Don’t set it and forget it.
Last but not least, monitor the performance of your new business. How many website visitors are you getting? Are people engaging with your content? Do they consider your product worth buying? What are their thoughts and opinions? Always devise strategies that address your audience’s needs.
Will you be the owner of an amazing startup this era? There are new needs to meet and opportunities to leverage. Pay attention to changing customer behaviors and adapt to them. This is the key to helping your business succeed.
