Previously, we talked about how important managing your energy is. In fact, we’re told that the key to productivity is managing your energy, not your time. It makes perfect sense simply because when you are empty on fuel physically, mentally, and emotionally, you are not capable of performing exceptionally.
Now, we’re going to talk about the top things that drain your energy. Being aware of these energy killers will help you focus on the things that matter, worry less and be the successful solopreneur you should be.
Staying indoors all-day long
Think of a wilted plant. That’s what you’ll become if you surround yourself with walls the entire day. You may not realize this but your inability to focus and irritability are because of a lack of natural light and nature. The sun and green nature have a powerful effect on your mood and mental health. So go ahead, get outdoors for at least 45 minutes. Open the windows to allow sunlight if you work from home.
Emotional sensitivity
While being an emotionally sensitive person isn’t entirely bad, the problem is that it can end up costing you your business. If something triggers your emotional hot buttons, don’t fly off the handle. Successful solopreneurs, and all business owners for that matter learn to stay calm under pressure by focusing on the positive. Negative thinking will only increase your stress, further depleting your energy.
Overworking yourself
No matter where you are in your solopreneur business, whether you’re just getting started or are in the process of running a campaign, always remember not to work long and crazy hours or neglect rest. Because if you do, you will get so tired that you will not want to do anything at all. If you don’t want to slip up and keep that momentum, then be consistent. Develop a solid routine that will still leave you feeling amazing at the end of the day.
Too much caffeine
Coffee is almost everyone’s favorite beverage – especially among office workers and solopreneurs who work from home. While caffeine quickly fixes your energy and alertness, too much of it actually does the opposite. If you describe yourself as a coffee addict and feel tired all the time, consider giving yourself a caffeine detox. Substitute coffee with low-caffeine teas or a refreshing glass of lemon water.
Perfectionism
If you want to be miserable solopreneur, raise your expectations in such a way that nobody can ever meet them – including yourself. It’s easy to think that a business without flaws makes the business owner happy, but the truth is that perfectionism leads to dissatisfaction because you’ll be beating yourself up when things don’t go as planned – and they’re inevitable because life is not perfect.
So there you have it, the biggest energy killers you might be having in your life right now. It’s time to overcome these energy killers one step at a time. Take it easy and give your physical, mental, and emotional health the care that it needs.
