Our world before the pandemic was a busy one. Everybody had their own roles to play and there was less time for family bonding. Now that we’re all in quarantine, let us all take the viral outbreak as an opportunity to strengthen the bonds with our loved ones and make up for the lost time we all spent at work. Here are some ideas to try.

1. Play some nostalgic games
Card games, board games, or anything that isn’t of modern electronics in origin is a fun way to revisit the past. It’s also an opportunity to broaden children’s view of fun and teach them that electronics alone cannot entertain people.
Example of nostalgic games: Old Maid, Snakes and Ladders, or Tetris.
2. Grow a garden together
Make the world a better place by adding green to it. This can be a learning opportunity to teach your kid or partner how to plant and grow vegetables for consumption or to plant and grow flowers for home decoration. We might as well teach them the importance of caring for the environment.
3. Movie night every night
A classic American family bonding is to watch a fun, friendly, and educational film. For example, add some popcorn or fries to Disney’s Award-Winning 1994 classic “The Lion King” to learn along with your family the sacred balance of nature in The Circle of Life?
4. Teach the kids how to prepare, cook, and serve basic food
Cooking as a basic survival skill is also worth teaching to your kids. Start with simple dishes such as hotdogs and eggs. This is also a good opportunity to educate them on proper table preparation, table manners, and kitchen safety skills.
5. Study academics
Surely, the kids somehow miss school, and with that, it’s important to keep their minds productive. You can have fun challenges in algebra, physics, or grammar. If you noticed your child isn’t quite good in a school subject, now is a chance to help them improve their school grades.
6. Have a “themed” dinner once a week
Have a Friday dinner solely dedicated to roleplaying. You can either dress up as the 1950s or have the entire dinner menu comprised of Asian cuisine.
7. Make room for humor and storytelling
The pandemic can be quite depressing so why not brighten up the mood with some jokes? If you’re a father, bring out the dad jokes that you’ve learned. If you’re a mother, bring out a storybook and tell a story to your little ones before they sleep. Doing this also makes sure they sleep early.
8. Play indoor sports
You can’t allow the pandemic to slow down your bodies. Incorporate some physical activities to stay fit. You can play futsal with your partner and child or let them bounce on the indoor trampoline to their fill. If you want a little sun then a game of baseball catch in the backyard is also ideal.
9. Have an indoor picnic
Vacate the living room. Spread a cozy blanket and have a picnic in front of the fireplace. If you want you can have an indoor picnic while watching a movie. You can also do a little indoor camping activity by setting up a tent in your living room. Your partner might love a creative quasi-outdoor experience and your kid would enjoy the indoor fortress.
Your family is a treasure so show your affection by getting creative every day. Always remember that an idle mind is the devil’s playground. Keep your head occupied while inspiring activities and positivity in your family!
