Making your business more fun…. This is a topic that only a few solopreneurs dive into. Because when people start a business, it all becomes WORK.
Enjoyment matters if you want to run a business successfully. Imagine this scenario where a solopreneur has fun with what he does: He’s about to write a blog post, and suddenly three hours have gone by. He got lost in his work and to him, that felt so good.
Here at Lifestyle Solopreneur, our goal is to help solopreneurs build a lifestyle business. For that to happen, a solopreneur has to experience happiness.
We’re not talking about “temporary” happiness when someone escapes from all the busy-ness of life by having a vacation. We mean the kind of happiness one feels while running things. We somewhat describe this as being in the zone.
At the end of each workday in your business, I want you to be able to say, “Where did the time go?” “Wow!! done already?”
Here are my five tips to enjoy what you do:
1. Start with projects that you love.
If you focus on the things that you love, work becomes leisure. Whether you have to pick a niche or decide on a product or service to offer, make sure that it excites you. Doing what you love allows you to be more creative and proactive. The benefit is that you gain more earning opportunities.
2. Change your work environment.
During the past few weeks, we featured different cities that offer co-working spaces. The whole point of featuring those shared office spaces is to let solopreneurs know that mood and productivity can be improved by experiencing a new environment.
As a solopreneur, you have the freedom to work from multiple locations. Find places that make you feel at ease. One aspect you should consider is whether you work best in silence or with a background noise.
3. Give yourself a challenge.
Have you ever considered challenging yourself to make a difference in your day? To get a project or work done? Here’s a fun challenge to try — it’s actually more of a game. I call it the Chocolate Milk Challenge. Set a time limit for a specific task. To motivate yourself to FOCUS, reward yourself after completing the task with a glass of chocolate milk (it can also be another reward like extra hours of sleep).
4. Hire an awesome virtual team.
You want to have two or more trusted people to help you run your business more efficiently. Because the truth is, you can’t do everything on your own if you want to go fast. To build a virtual team, leverage marketplaces like UpWork or Onlinejobs.ph.

5. Always seek out inspiration.
Too often, solopreneurs overlook the importance of finding inspiration. No matter how satisfied we are in business, sometimes we just feel blah. We could use some inspiration to stay excited. There are many ways to find inspiration. Examples are reading a book, meeting up with other entrepreneurs, or listening to an uplifting podcast.
Wrapping Up
A business doesn’t have to be difficult and bland. Work should be fun because an enjoyable process often leads to success. Do what you love, change your setting, play a fun game, outsource, and stay inspired!
